Many of the same health problems that affect us, including hearing loss, also affect our pets. Fortunately, most pets adapt very well to the disability with a little help from their owners.View Article
We're a friendly, caring, and warm animal clinic who cares every bit as much about your pet as you do. Taking care of animals is our job, but it's also our passion.
Dr. Mike Hughes
Dr. Mike Hughes is the owner (with wife Nan) and only veterinarian at CCAC. Dr. Hughes grew up in Corpus Christi, TX, graduating from King High School in 1966. Dr. Hughes received his A.A. from Del Mar College and a B.A. in zoology from the University of Hawaii in 1970. Dr. Hughes decided to pursue a career in Veterinary medicine and worked for Dr. Martin and Dr. Demarious Frey until he was accepted into Veterinary School at TAMU in 1972.
Dr. Hughes met the love of his life standing in line at Del Mar one fall. He and Nan married in 1972 and Nan "put them through" Veterinary school. After graduating in 1975 Mike and Nan moved several times from Harlingen, to Corpus Christi, and then Brownsville (to be resident veterinarian at Gladys Porter Zoo), and finally back to CC for good in 1985.
Dr. Hughes and Nan purchased CCAC September of 1994 and have been here ever since (and for a long time to come!). Mike and Nan enjoy seeing the pets and the owners attached to them every day.
Mike and Nan have one daughter, Susie. Susie graduated from Mary Carroll High School, University of North Texas, and now lives and works in Chicago.
Mike and Nan have four dogs and two cats at home and a Rotweiler (Bruno) who lives at the Clinic.
Dr. Hughes and Nan like being outdoors, though they have developed a "Dance Fever" and frequently go dancing together.
Dr. Hughes also has a passion that he has pursued most of his adult life — surfing. That's why he's not at the clinic Wednesday mornings.
